Castle Building Services, a design and installation contractor based in Hebburn, South Tyneside, is opening an office in East Kilbride, Scotland, and recruiting six members of staff.
Castle, which this financial year will turn over more than £20m, was founded by commercial director Allan Carr and operations director Tony Lister. It has enjoyed steady organic growth since launching 13 years ago and last year appointed technical director Simon Groom and projects director David Harland as shareholder directors. Expansion into Scotland follows a number of project completions across new-build and major refurbishment projects/ It recently won its largest single contract to date – an appointment by contractor Bowmer and Kirkland to provide mechanical and electrical design and installation services on the £29m speculative development, St Vincent’s Plaza in Glasgow. Carr said:
“When Tony and I started the company it was our desire to create an innovative customer-focused organisation, which was built on integrity and one which would deliver sustainable local employment and a high standard of workmanship. I believe we have achieved this, as can be demonstrated by our significant year on year growth for the past four years. With regard to opening in Scotland, we see a great opportunity to replicate what we have done in the region to establish an autonomous regional office, serving its local market with a local resource of high-calibre construction professionals. Although trading conditions still remain challenging, we see a confidence returning to the industry across the UK and, based on the Scottish Building Federation’s Q1 trading figures, we are confident that the time is right to make this decision.”
Castle is currently working on the transformation project at Newcastle Central Station and is expected to make further new contract announcements soon regarding a number of contract wins in the education and hotel sectors.
