Hebburn-based Castle Building Services has announced three contract wins, all signed since the beginning of August, which come on top of the contractor’s work on schemes including the station transformation project underway at Newcastle’s Central Station.

The new deals span a number of areas including further education, commercial office space and, in a first for the company, waste transfer, and they come two months after announcing two contracts worth £5m.

Projects director David Harland said the company is currently completing a further contract, which it believes to be its largest to date, which will see turnover increase considerably for 2013.

Established in 2001 to provide building engineering services across a range of sectors, revenues are currently £13m but are forecast to top at least £16m this year, and the 112-strong firm swelled its ranks by 12 earlier this year to help meet demand.

In first of the three new contracts, Castle has been appointed by BAM Construction to provide mechanical, electrical and plumbing services on a project currently underway at Sunderland College’s Bede Campus. Working with GMI Construction on behalf of Barmston Developments, a joint venture between Wilton Developments and Clugston Estates, Castle is also set to return to the Turbine Business Park on a second phase of work on a project to create incubator office space aimed at business start-ups.

The third contract will see Castle work closely with contractor Lend Lease on a PFI scheme to create three waste transfer sites in Tyne and Wear.

Harland said: “Despite trading conditions remaining challenging we have worked hard to secure these new contracts and while we are enjoying a tremendous year so far, we don’t take anything for granted.

“Some of the schemes present us with logistical challenges while others present ones of programming, such as a 16-week turnaround time to deliver the new office, hybrid and workshop accommodation in Washington.

“Looking ahead, our work-winning consistency means that we are on track to record further significant growth for the remainder of the year and benefits our recent high level of recruitment.”
