Castle wins Passivhaus project for grammar school in Scotland
South Tyneside based, Castle, which has offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow, is to supply full mechanical, electrical, public health and renewable services for the new Passivhaus-certified, Paisley Grammar School in Renfrewshire.
The Passivhaus standard is a leading construction methodology, focused on reducing carbon emissions and creating high quality internal environments that maximise occupant comfort.
Castle was appointed by main contractor, Morrison Construction, as mechanical and electrical contractor. It has partnered with Morrison Construction on a vast amount of similar projects for a variety of schools across Scotland.

Paisley Grammar School will replace the existing school. Boasting a 300-seat theatre, as well as becoming the first Passivhaus school in the local authority, it is expected to open in the summer of 2026.
The project is being funded by Renfrewshire Council and Scottish Futures Trust, supported by funding from the Scottish Government’s Learning Estate Improvement Programme.
The scope of works includes the design, supply, install and commissioning of mechanical systems consisting of above ground drainage, domestic services, low temperature hot water heating, underfloor heating, ventilation and air conditioning, incoming mains, thermal insulation, commissioning and building management systems to monitor and control energy use and sprinklers. Also, the installation of air source heat pumps.
Electrical works include, LV installations, small power, fire and intruder alarms, security systems, lighting, including controls, earthing and bonding, lightning protection, data, induction loops and EV charging. The services will be installed to meet the high standards of Passivhaus.
