Contract confirmed for supply of MEP services at new £53 million school in Scotland

South Tyneside based, Castle, which has offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow, continues to grow its presence in the education sector, in Scotland, with a contract to supply full mechanical, electrical, public health and renewable services for the new Dumfries High School.

Castle, was appointed by main contractor, Morgan Sindall Construction, thanks to its reputation as a leading provider of MEP services in Scotland.

Delivered by hub South West Scotland (hub SW) in partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Council, with funding supported by the Learning Estate Investment Programme, the construction of the £53 million project will provide facilities for over 930 pupils.

The school will be built on the site of the former high school’s football pitch. It will be home to a new athletics centre, offering PE and sporting facilities for pupils and the wider community and an all-weather sports pitch.

It will feature new social and dining areas, as well as an amphitheatre and science garden. Break-out areas will be created for science, languages and there will be a library.

The comprehensive scope of works for Castle includes the design, supply, install and commissioning of mechanical systems consisting of above ground drainage, domestic services, low temperature and hot water heating. There is large scale underfloor heating, ventilation and air conditioning, incoming mains, thermal insulation, commissioning and building management systems to monitor and control energy use and sprinklers. Also, the installation of 30kwp photovoltaics and air source heat pumps.

Electrical works include, LV installations, small power, fire and intruder alarms, security systems, lighting, including controls, earthing and bonding, lightning protection, data, induction loops and EV charging.
