Principal contractor role confirmed for 43,000 sq ft facility associated with the clean energy sector

Hebburn-based, Castle, has been appointed as principal contractor to a new manufacturing facility in Cramlington, associated with the burgeoning clean energy sector.

Appointed by UK Land Estates, the 43,000 sq ft site, which will benefit from a wide range of sophisticated sustainability features, is set to be complete in quarter two, 2025.

The facility, currently referred to as Plot Two, is based at Nelson Park.

With its headquarters in Hebburn, South Tyneside and offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Teesside, Castle is continuing on its rapid growth curve.  20 employees have joined since the beginning of 2024 to strengthen its market-leading MEP services proposition, which is complemented by its now established principal contractor role across the north of England and Scotland. Most recently, the company announced the launch of Castle Design – an architectural and design management service.

While Castle Design, MEP and Build each operate as divisions in their own right, the company has developed an inhouse team to offer a turnkey solution, bringing together significant skill, knowledge and experience, providing coordinated, fast and cost-effective solutions, that delivers all client requirements.

Craig Muldoon, divisional director Build at Castle, said: “The project will see our teams involved in a full construction experience, from our inhouse architectural service through to statutory services, earthworks, groundworks, frame and envelop, MEP services and external services including associated roads and car parks.

“Sustainability will feature heavily throughout. There will be significant renewable energy measures including EV charging points, the installation of a 161kWp Photo Voltaic array, a sustainable drainage system to include a swales and drainage retention pond backed up with underground attenuation tanks and permeable paving to avoid flooding. All heating and lighting systems will be energy efficient and we have also considered wildlife in and around the site. As such, conservation is closely monitored with bird and bat nesting and roosting boxes installed.”
